With both sides securing 14-3 records across the regular season, the two top seeds have seemed destined to come together in the biggest event in the NFL.
The NFC's Eagles scored 19 more touchdowns in the regular season than they conceded, with the AFC's Chiefs notching 18 more, which is also an impressive tally. Meanwhile, the Eagles topped the points differential, with 133 to 127. The Eagles also boast a positive +8 turnover differential, while the Chiefs have a small negative number.
Patrick Mahomes vs Jalen Hurts
Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs into this one in what is his fifth season as a top five starting QB. He boasts a number of accolades including a duo of Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl ring.
Jalen Hurts is into his third year in the NFL, with two of these as the starting QB. Despite his lack of experience in comparison to Mahomes, he has impressed, with records of 1-3 in 2020, 8-7 in 2021 and 14-1 this time out.
Both come into the match with their own injury worries. Mahomes sprained his ankle in the Divisional Round, while Hurts is still managing a shoulder strain in his throwing arm.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles Tips & Preview
The offence and defence of both sides has ranked very high this season. The Chiefs were the most efficient passers in the NFL. They managed to throw the ball a yard further per attempt than the average, with the Eagles ranked third.
Defensievly, the Eagles topped the charts for pass defence, while the Chiefs were ranked as the fourth of the post season sides.
All in all, the Eagles scored 28 points per game against opponents who allowed 22.5, while the Chiefs boast a similarly impressive differential, with both sides allowing points that were around the average for the league.
The Eagles have a 50/50 split in offensive passing plays and running plays, which is below the NFL average, with 55% of plays being passes.
Hurts is a big part of the Eagles running attacks, with the side closing on 40 running touchdowns this season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs pass 61% of snaps.
The two best sides in the NFL come together in what could be an incredibly exciting and unpredictable way to bring the curtain down on the season. The Chiefs came into this one as the slight favourites originally, but the Eagles have since gone ahead with injuries taking their toll on the former.
The Eagles will look to continue to run the ball to devastating effect along with a pass rush that can put Mahomes under pressure. While Mahomes has been brilliant this year, he can only do so much with a team that is so depleted. Eliminating the fluctuating odds in the handicap market should be achieved by taking the Eagle to win outright.
