Celta Vigo vs. Real Madrid predictions

Real Madrid came from behind against newly-promoted Almeria to win their opening match of the season on Sunday evening. It took until the 61st minute for them to register their first goal, scored by Lucas Vazquez before David Alaba netted the winner.

However, one of the hallmarks of a great team is to win when not playing at their best, and Real managed that on several occasions last season. Their next challenge will be a trip to Celta Vigo, who began their season with a 2-2 draw against Espanyol.

Celta finished 11th last season and lost both their matches against Los Blancos. In fact, they haven’t beaten Madrid in any of their last 10 meetings, stretching back to January 2017 when they triumphed in a Copa Del Rey clash.

Real Sociedad vs. Barcelona predictions

The good news for Barcelona was that they were able to register their new players in time for their season opener with Rayo Vallecano last weekend. The bad news is that they were frustrated by Vallecano and held to a goalless draw.

Xavi’s team now face a tricky-looking task against Real Sociedad in the Catalans’ first away game of the season.

A misfiring Barcelona could play into Sociedad’s hands, as only three teams had a better defensive record in La Liga last season than the White and Blues. However, Sociedad conceded four goals against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and lost both meetings between the pair last season.

Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal predictions

Atletico Madrid’s title defence last season didn’t go to plan as they ended the year third and 15 points adrift of eventual title winners Real Madrid. However, it is difficult to envisage Diego Simeone’s men not being competitive in La Liga this season. They welcome Villarreal to the Wanda Metropolitan on Sunday.

Even though they weren’t at their brutal best last season, Atletico’s wins against both Real Madrid and Barcelona on their own patch showed how tough they are to beat, as they only lost twice at home last season.

However, Villarreal also proved themselves to be tough to beat in La Liga on their way to a seventh-place finish. They drew 2-2 with Atletico both times they met and reached the last four of the Champions League, showcasing the fact they are a team worth more than the sum of their parts.

Sevilla vs. Real Valladolid predictions

Sevilla finished fourth last season, as their habit of drawing too many games saw them fall away from Real Madrid in terms of the title battle. However, Julen Lopetegui’s side do look strong and they will be expecting to beat Real Valladolid when they visit them at the weekend.

The last three meetings between the two sides have ended all square, but Valladolid have not beaten Sevilla since December 2012.
