The KBO is well over halfway through the season and this weekend will feature games that involve teams near the top of the league standings. Most notably, the SSG Landers will battle the Kiwoom Heroes, but also the Doosan Bears will host the LG Twins and the Kia Tigers will look to remain in a playoff position when they host the KT Wiz.

With only about a month of the season remaining, now is the time for teams in danger of missing the playoffs to make a move or for teams already in the playoff picture to improve their standing and to try and earn the all-important bye.

SSG Landers at Kiwoon Heroes

Starting with the SSG Landers, they will hit the road on Saturday morning to take on the Kiwoom Heroes. The SSG Landers have opened up a huge lead in the league standings, while the Heroes have fallen all the way to third place after several losing streaks recently.

The SSG Landers have had plenty of success against the Heroes this season, beating them in eight out of the 11 games they have played against each other. As a team, the Heroes have the better team earned run average (ERA) (3.51), compared to the SSG Landers (3.70), but the SSG Landers have the better team batting average (.256) compared to the Heroes (.249). That is why backing them to continue their dominance against the Heroes will be the recommended play on Saturday.

LG Twins at Doosan Bears

Next up we have the LG Twins and Doosan Bears, also playing on Saturday morning. The Twins have used the recent struggles from the Kiwoom Heroes to move up into second place but are still 9.5 games behind the SSG Landers for first place.

The Bears on the other hand, have really struggled this season, and find themselves in seventh place in the league standings, at the time of writing. With the season coming to a close quickly, the Bears need to make a move now otherwise they will not be in contention for the playoffs.

The Twins have won eight of the 12 head-to-head games with the Bears this season. They also have a superior team ERA (3.70) and team batting average (.273); therefore, backing the Twins to win will be the best play for Saturday as well.

Kia Tigers at KT Wiz

Finally, we have a Sunday morning matchup between the Kia Tigers and the KT Wiz. The Tigers are hovering right on the edge of the final playoff spot, sitting in fifth place, with the Lotte Giants breathing down their necks in sixth place, just a few games behind them.

Meanwhile, the KT Wiz are above them in fourth place, but are looking to improve their standing as much as possible to earn as many byes as they can.

These teams have played a total of 10 times this season with the KT Wiz owning the season series 6-3-1. The Tigers have the better team batting average (.272) compared to the KT Wiz (.256), but the KT Wiz hold the edge in team ERA (3.56) compared to the Tigers (4.10).

Because the Tigers’ pitching staff have really struggled this season, the KT Wiz should be able to take full advantage. Therefore, backing them to continue winning against the Tigers will be the top play for Sunday morning.
